Micro-needling is a treatment that can help improve the appearance of your skin as well as maintain long lasting results. Whilst Micro-needling is generally safe, there are a few things you should do to prepare yourself for the treatment. In this blog post, we will mull over a few key points to get you ready for a micro-needling appointment, making sure you undergo a beneficial treatment that will meet your desired outcome.

1. Make sure when seeking an aesthetician to carry out your micro-needling procedures you do your research and make sure you are using a reputable provider. Seek a Skin Specialist that has knowledge, experience and your concerns at the forefront of their mind.

2. Although just before a micro-needling procedure the area should be cleaned and sanitised by your Skin Specialist regardless, it is still advised that you attend product and make-up free, this is to minimise the risk of infection. Not only does this save time at your appointment but there is less chance the skin will become irritated, product remnants won’t affect penetration and generally makes for a more comfortable experience.

3. Be sure to avoid sun exposure pre and post treatment alike, this will help avoid irritation and sensitivity in the area. Make sure you are wearing an SPF at all times. A delayed reaction can occur if this is not followed or if the time for heat and inflammation to calm down isn’t given. Skin can be hypersensitive post-treatment in particular due to us stimulating and causing controlled trauma to the epidermis. Allow time afterwards for you to be able to tend to your skin’s aftercare needs.

4. Aftercare is as important as the actual procedure. Make sure you plan your appointments on days when you can leave the skin to breath and calm naturally. We want to feed and nourish the skin post-procedure to aid and encourage the post-inflammatory response but to not aggravate it. We always advise to give high-strength products such as Retinols, Salicylic, Tretinoin etc a miss for at least 72 hours afterwards. Hyaluronic acid is highly encouraged for healing and hydration, and applying an SPF daily is not only good practice but a must to keep epidermal layers protected.

5. We always advised a course of treatments for best results. Micro-needling is a procedure where the results continue to flourish even afterwards. Progress would also be followed this way on each forthcoming visit or a review appointment would be advised to discuss next steps. Your Skin Specialist should always give you the opportunity to review, ask questions and raise any concerns.

Above are 5 very simple and easy-to-follow guidelines which can be actioned by yourself, doing so will only further project your treatment outcomes. Following these points are strongly advised to ensure you receive a thorough, informative treatment and an all-round well executed procedure.

If you have any concerns or questions you should always reach out to an expert for guidance.

Why not take your micro-needling to the next level?

We also have the option of Radio Frequency Micro-Needling. This gives you all the effects of micro-needling with the added benefit of lifting and smoothing the skin. Radio Frequency is added to provide those patients who have a concern over lack of laxity an option to work on this also.

Radio frequency penetrates the skin and effectively warms the dermal layers to stimulate further collagen and elastin, over time this helps diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, plumps the skin from within and helps with texture, therefore allowing the skin to look smoother, healthier and more radiant.

We use insulated needles to safely transfer heat directly into the mid dermis layers to take effect.

As we age year on year our bodies naturally produce less and less collagen, a massive contributing factor to how we visibly age. Radio Frequency Micro-Needling is a treatment that can effectively help with this unsurprisingly very common concern.
