What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is a injectable treatment containing poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a substance that encourages your skin to rebuild its own collagen. It is ideal for patients seeking a more gradual, subtle and natural looking rejuvenation without the fear of looking over-filled, fake or pillow faced.

Sculptra is commonly used to treat

  • Volume loss in the cheeks and temples

  •  Skin laxity and facial sagging

  •  Fine lines and crepey skin texture mid face

  • Fine lines and crepey skin texture

  •  Overall skin rejuvenation

How does Sculptra work?

Sculptra is injected into the deeper layers of the skin where it acts as a collagen biostimulator. Over the following weeks and months, your body produces new collagen around the injected areas, gradually restoring volume and improving skin firmness.

Most patients require a course of 2-3 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart, with results developing over 3-6 months. Results can last for up to 2 years depending on your skin, lifestyle and maintenance plan.

Is Sculptra right for me?

Sculptra is ideal for patients 30+ who are beginning to notice volume loss, skin thinning, crepiness to the skin (very apparent when smiling and you see multiple fine lines and creases).

It is suitable for most skin types, a full consultation is required to assess your suitability and ensure safe, effective treatment.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

Initially 2 treatments 4-6 weeks apart. Some individuals with large volume loss or higher levels of skin laxity may require a further treatment

WILL I FEEL ANY DISCOMFORT?

Very little. The treatment is delivered by a cannula to allow for very specific placement.

WILL I REQUIRE AN ANAESTHETIC

No topical anaesthetic is needed– the Sculptra solution is mixed with Lidocaine to reduce discomfort during the treatment

WHAT IS THE GENERAL RECOVERY TIME?

Minimal. As with any injectable treatments there may be a small amount of swelling, redness and/or bruising which will subside within a few days. Normal activity can be resumed within 24-48 hours.

FINAL RESULTS

A “Glow” followed by new collagen fibres can be seen in as little as only one week although results will take 6-10 months to fully appreciate, and 6 months is the earliest time to make decisions about future “touch up” treatments. This is a longer-term commitment but is most definitely worth waiting for.
